Ron Paul is actually leading in the Iowa polls according to this article in US News and World Report. Could he really be the Republican nominee?
I like Congressman Paul;s views most of the time (no one agrees 100% with my views), but I'm not sure most far right Republicans agree with him on everything. Unfortunately, his Libertarian slant makes him less conservative than some would like. Personally, this is what makes him the most appealing candidate.
Paul's consistent stance on shrinking government did not attract enough attention in the past. However, the shift in America's primary concerns might just make him the most popular candidate running. His views definitely reshaped the debates.
Can he do it?
